This study aims to analyze the process of self-realization of the protagonists in Briefing For A Descent Into Hell and The White Hotel and the function of science and literature on this process supported by the contribution of the postmodern narrative technique. It examines the possible interrelation of narrative technique and the theme of self-realization by relying on the general outpouring of the novels. The postmodern narrative technique is peculiar to itself in terms of its varied approaches and methods. This thesis comprises of some postmodern concepts such as heterogeneity, multiplicity, decentralization, and intertextuality and these aspects of postmodern narrative technique are remarkably given emphasis for the sake of a more fitting examination of the novels in question. In this thesis, the function of the postmodern narrative technique is examined through the controversial interrelation of science and literature within both novels as a result of their common sort of protagonists and their interlocutors. Fragmented society and fragmented consciousness within the public and private worlds are illustrated in this thesis through a Chinese box structure of narrative in both novels revealing psychological, social, verbal and literary perspectives upon the protagonists seeking for their inner reality in the process of self-realization. Accordingly, the thesis resolves this process of the protagonists' self-realization through a theme of science and literature within/despite the "sane" society with respect to the postmodern narrative technique.
