Investigations on increasing of nursery stocks productivity in "Bursa Siyahı" fig cultivar

-48- SUMMARY INVESTIGATIONS ON INCREASING OF NURSERY STOCK PRODUCTIVITY IN 'BURSA SİYAHI' FIG CULTTVAR This study was conducted with 'Bursa Siyahı' fig cultivar in order to increase the productivity of nursery stocks at the Research and Application Center, College of Agriculture, Adnan Menderes University between 1997 and 1999. Fresh fruit consumption has been increasing with the advancement of storage and transportation facilities in the world. Fresh market fig export is depended on describing of all characteristics, incresing of production, and solving marketing problems of 'Bursa Siyahı' fig cultivar in Turkey where fig production has played an important role. In this research, the aim was to reduce probable cold injury in early autumn by stopping irrigation on 4 different dates; Aug 15, Aug 30, Sep 15, and Sep 30; and 3 different chemical applications; 500 ppm Ethrel, 5 % Finish, and 1 % Bordeaux mixture. By applying these, the purpose of hardening of nursery stocks in early autumn and that of increasing of sugar-starch accumulation attempted to be achieved. In this study, plant growth criteria, such as number of roots, length of the longest root, fresh and dry root and trunck weight, the change of diameter and length of new flush (in 10-day intervals), and the content of sugar and starch were investigated-49- The results were as follows according to the above criteria: 1. The treatments were not found significant except the number of roots. The most effective result was obtained from I % Bordeaux mixture on Aug 15. 2. The most effective application on stach accumaultion m the roots was found by stopping irrigation on Sep 30. 3. The highest sugar accumaulation in the root was obtained by stopping irrigation on Sep 15. 4. The most effective application for sugar content in the trunck by stopping irrigation on Aug 15. 5. The 500 ppm Ethrel application provided the highest sugar accumaulation in the trunck.
