Abstract (EN)

The worst natural disasters the world has ever seen; They are the product of earthquakes that can affect many parts of the world suddenly, periodically and semi-regularly.One of the most important factors affecting the seismic behavior of structures is related to the plan and the vertical regularity of the structural system.The causes of collapse of structures during an earthquake include irregularities in mass, rigidity, and discontinuities in the geometry of the structure. Irregular structures are common to most existing and new urban infrastructures.Irregularities in the plan are an important reason for the collapse of structures during an earthquake.Many damages have been observed in buildings, bridges and structures providing continuous service due to excessive torsion impact.Torsional irregularity has a greater impact on tall buildings.The torsion effect causes the Storey drift caused by an earthquake to change. This leads to an intensification of stresses in the elements on the outer axes of the building. In this study, the seismic behavior of irregular buildings, especially torsion irregularities, was studied.In the study, firstly, the cases of irregularities that can be encountered in buildings are explained.To achieve the objective of the study, 16 reinforced concrete building models were designed. These models were obtained by changing the positions of the shear walls in the plan.Response Spectrum Analysis Method and Time History Analysis Method was used as methods for analysis, and ETABS software was used for structural analysis.Two separate structural analyzes were performed for each model, in accordance with the Turkey Building Earthquake Regulation (TBDY 2018) and the American Society of Civil Engineers Regulation (ASCE7-16). Thus, it became possible to reveal the effect of changing the positions of shear walls on the torsional behavior of buildings, and the effect of different analysis methods and codes in determining torsional behavior.In addition, the effect of changing the angle of seismic loads on the building on the torsional behavior of the buildings was studied.In future studies, it is proposed to investigate the torsion effects of buildings by comparing different aspects by changing the parameters such as the building model, the position of the shear walls in the plan, the method of analysis, and the codes.
