Abstract (EN)

This study aims to evaluate the February 6, 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes from an integrated disaster management perspective. The research examines the conceptual framework of integrated disaster management, its development in Turkey, and the impacts of the February 6 earthquakes. Findings indicate that although Turkey's disaster management system has adopted an integrated approach, it faces implementation challenges. Inadequacies in risk reduction and preparedness activities, coordination problems, and planning deficiencies in recovery efforts are highlighted. Based on lessons learned from the earthquakes, recommendations include strengthening the legal and institutional framework, enhancing risk reduction efforts, improving preparedness activities, increasing response capacity, and supporting community-based disaster management.
