Abstract (EN)

The Urartian Kingdom, established in the Van Lake Basin and ruled for about 250 years, has brought the Eastern Anatolia to a golden age. Based on various excavations and surveys, it was found that some nomadic peoples lived in Eastern Anatolia during the Prehistoric Age. Although the presence of the settlement was known during this period, the fact that the ruins were located on high plateaus, which were difficult to reach, caused the archaeological findings to be insufficient. According to the archaeological findings, Van has been a center where people of various races, cultures and beliefs lived individually or collectively throughout the history periods starting from the Chalcolithic Age (5500-3000 BC) . After the transition to settled life in the region, there were constant hand changes, invasions and wars. For this reason, the architectural works that survived to the present day have been the remains of extremely strong fortress structures. One of the most beautiful fortresses of the Urartian Kingdom is Çavuştepe Castle. In Çavuştepe Castle, permanent and large-scale city structures such as up and down fortresses, palaces, temples and storage areas which have historical value by archaeological and scientific circles were examined. However, the architecture of Çavuştepe Castle and its reflections on contemporary Çavuştepe village housing architecture have not been investigated. The adverse nature conditions, disasters and wars of the region reduced the resistance of mudbrick and wood materials used in Çavuştepe architecture. For this reason, it has been given importance and priority to examine the houses which are small scale living units which give very healthy clues about socio - cultural structure and development of societies . In this study, Çavuştepe Castle and Çavuştepe Villagewere compared in terms of architecture (building materials, tools used, architectural workmanship, houses, tandoor, storage structures, animal shelters).
