The effect of 8 th grade students on mathematics achievement and attitude of the model creation activities in algebra teaching

It is important to use modeling activities to link students to everyday life and to create models for actual problem situations, taking into account the fact that "Mathematics education programs should prepare environments for the development of skills such as problem solving, communication and reasoning by modeling students" (Sandalci, 2013) . For this reason, research was carried out to investigate the effects of model building activities on student achievement and attitude in 8th grade algebra teaching. The sample of the research consists of 40 students who are in eighth grade in a secondary school in the province of Tuşba, Van, and 20 of these students are in the control group and 20 of them are in the control group. In the experimental group, mathematical modeling activities were conducted in the control group according to the curriculum in the curriculum. In this study, a quantitative research approach was adopted and pre-test-post-test was organized according to semi-experimental design with control group. Before and after the application, data were collected from the 20 multiple choice Math Achievement Test, Mathematics Attitude Questionnaire, which was applied to experimental and control groups, as well as reports and transaction papers obtained from the modeling activities conducted with the experimental group. In the analysis of the data, normality in the achievement test and attitude scale. The Shapiro Wilk test was applied, the fitness test was applied to the scores obtained from the tests, the parametric and nonparametric tests obtained from the testes were performed and evaluated by the SPSS package program.
