Abstract (EN)
In architecture and structural engineering, one of the most well-known wide-span roof systems are the space truss system. These systems provide a lightweight and more economical roof structure by providing wider spans with fewer elements. Space truss systems also come in different designs with different structural behaviors due to their different designs and supporting elements. The dome systems, which are the first examples of space truss systems, are double and single curvature cage systems created by combining radial cage or beam systems rotating around the vertical axis. These systems cover maximum amounts of area with minimum surface. Additionally, while covering large areas, they provide architectural integrity and economy in the construction sector with less need for elements than other systems. In this thesis, single-layer and double-layer dome models with different height/span ratios were created. The dome models were calculated using the Eurocode-1 codes for all load assignments except for the earthquake load, which was calculated using the Turkish Building Earthquake Code 2018. All designs and analyses were performed using the SAP2000 program, and load factors of Turkish Steel Design Code according to the "Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD)" method were used. All designs were also performed using the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) 360-16 specifications. For some critical bars, the stress/capacity ratios obtained from SAP2000 solutions were compared to the ratios of the Turkish code. These ratios calculated from the numerical solutions are either the same or very close to each other than the ratios calculated by other methods. As a result, for the analysis and desing of large structures like steel domes, SAP2000 program was effectively used. This study can be a useful resource for those who want to learn about the analysis and design of steel domes
