Evaluation of the ethical sensibility in surgery intensive care nurses

The study was made descriptively to assess the ethical sensitivity in surgery intensive care nurses. The study was carried out with the participation of 160 nurses employed in the intensive care units of a total of six institutions in the centre of Trabzon, four of them are affiliated hospitals of Public Hospitals Administration General Secretary, a university hospital and a private hospital. The data was collected by using "Nurse Introduction Form" and "Moral Sensitivity Questionnaire (MSQ)". In the assessment of the data; percentage, average, standard deviation, median, minimum and maximum values, importance test of difference between two averages, variance analysis, Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal Wallis Variance Analysis were used. It was determined that the ethical sensitivity of surgery intensive care nurses was on average level according to MSQ total points and sub dimension point averages. A statistically meaningful difference was found between MSQ total points of surgery intensive care nurses and their institution, employment period in the job and employment period in intensive care unit (p<0.05). According to the results derived from the study, organization of trainings and studies to fulfil the ethical sensitivity difference between the institutions and the employees can be advised.
