ABSTRACT STUDIES ON MULTIPLICATION OF WALNUT WITH HOT CALLUSING AND WARM STRATIFICATION METHODS MASTER'S THESIS Bahar SÜRÜCÜ DICLE UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF NATURAL AND APPLIED SCIENCES DEPARTMENT OF HORTICULTURE 2019 This research was conducted between March-December 2018 in the research and application area of the Department of Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture, Dicle University. In this research, scions of "Chandler" variety and two year old walnut seedlings were used. Effects of different grafting media and techniques on grafting success and shoot growing were investigated. As grafting media, "hot callusing", "warm stratification" and "unheated greenhouse" media; in terms of grafting techniques "whip and tongue graft" and "splice grafting" techniques were used. In the process of grafting, the highest success rate was 97.8% on whip and tongue grafting in hot callus media and 95.8% on splice grafting in warm stratification media. Highest shoot growing rate was 93.8% which is observed in splice grafting in warm stratification, lowest shoot growing rate was 82.2% in which whip and tongue graft techniques in warm stratification medium was chosen. Best result in terms of plant growth was 74.4%, plants with whip and tongue graft in hot callus media. In conclusion, both hot callusing and warm stratification methods could be beneficial in production of walnut saplings. The most delicate phase of these techniques were the part in which the acclimatization of sapling from grafting media in order to accommodate to external conditions.
