Özet (EN)

The general purpose of this study is to determine that if there is an interaction betweenthe frequency of online participants? using the nonverbal cues in e-mail and their senseof community.In the study, the frequency of online participants? using the nonverbal cues have beendetermined by the e mails participants sent. To determine the sense of community ofonline participants, Rovai?s ?Sense of Community Scale? has been used that its validityand reliability was proved. The data analysis of the study has been broken down byusing the SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) program. According to thedata has been gained at the end of the study, the relation between the frequency ofonline participants? using the nonverbal cues and their sense of community has beentried to be determined. Also, participants? demographic characteristics whether affectthe sense of community or not has been analysed.In the end of the study, it has been understood that online participants used the textbased messages which a kind of nonverbal cues more frequently rather than theemoticons. The participants use the nonverbal cues more frequently than the participantsare less likely to use, have been stated to highly possess a sense of community.Following the study, some recommendations were made for learners, researchers,practitioners and environmental designers based on the findings and conclusions of thestudy.
