The predictors of social adjustment and maladjustment in children: Agression and parents anger

This research was carried out to determine how the social adaptations and aggressions of children aged 5-6 according to various demographic characteristics (age, gender, parental education status) are distributed and differentiated. It is also the purpose of this research to determine whether parents' anger situations can be used to estimate children's social adaptation and social maladjustment, when the parent is thought to be a model for the child. Descriptive survey model and relational screening model was used in this study. The study's pool consists of 187 children aged 5-6 years who are educated in kindergarten, elementary school and secondary school within the Gölhisar in the province of Burdur in 2017-2018 academic year and their parents. Information about children was collected from their parents and teachers. "Personal Information Forms (A-B)", "Social Adjustment and Skill Scale", "Trait Anger-Anger Expression Style Scale" and "Pre-School Social Behavior Scale" were used as data collection tools in the research. The analysis of the data was done using "t-Test, One Way ANOVA and Multiple Regression" in SPSS 22.0 program. Also, descriptive statistics are given place. As a result of the research, social adaptation, social maladjustment, physical aggression and relational aggressiveness have not differed according to the age of the child and the educational status of the parent; while physical aggression and social maladjustment have differed significantly in favor of boys, relational aggression and social adaptation have not differed according to the sex of children. In the other way, the physical aggression of children and the anger levels of their parents are significant predictors of social adaptation. In other words, as children's physical aggression increases, their social adaptation decreases, as the parents' anger control increased, the social adaptation of the children increased. In addition to this stiuation; in this research, children's physical aggression and relational aggression, it was concluded that there is a significant predictor of social maladjustment.
