Women and citizenship issues in the modernization of the Republican period

This study explains the organic link between modernization and patriarchy through the struggle for women and women's rights. The struggle for women`s right have not been staying only in legal basis with the beginning of 2nd Monarchy. The main challenge was given in the repostioning of women in social area. Throught the beginning of Balkan Wars till the continuing of National Struggle in war conditions, the struggle of women rights evolutionized to the survival. After the declaration of Republic, the gained political rights and with the changing social conditions, the woman has entered a period of passive acceptance. With the republican era, the source of patriarchal was seeing as changed therefore the existing of this continued to be alive. After that developed new conditions for the public space of women. New phenomena was invented for the continuity of the patriarchal system. Then the boundry of women modernization has been determined. The purpose of this study is while trying to discribe the struggle of the women rights with covering all of these process from historical point of view and determine the extent to which the patriarchal mentality that shapes society is effective at every stage of the process. Besides the searching for an answer of the acquisiton of social and political rights of women is gaining from the struggle for women rigths or a gift from the Republic for Turkish Women. In line with the purpose the answers for the questions were tried to be found by using the survey compilation method by examining copyright and research works, newspapers and magazines, and parliamentary minute.
