Analysis of consumer's behavior towards waste drug consumption in the context of behavioral economics: A research on Kutahya Dumlupinar University students

Health expenditures allow the individual to live more healthier and longer. States are investing considerable amounts of drugs in order to ensure the right to a healthy life to all individuals. In order to prevent economic wastage, it is necessary to make the most effective treatment - the lowest cost drugs calculation in order to prevent over-consumption of the economy. For the most effective treatment, rational drug use behavior needs to be widespread. The first step of rational drug use behavior is the doctor. For effective treatment, the physician should write the appropriate drugs for the age, weight and disease of the patient and determine the appropriate dose. The second step of rational drug use behavior is pharmacist. The pharmacist is obliged not to sell drugs without prescription. The third step of rational drug use behavior is patients and the duties of the patient can be summarized as follows; to buy drugs on time and use in the manner and time recommended by the doctor. Particularly drugs, which are not all fully used and expired before the box is opened, cause a waste of drug. In this study, it is aimed to evaluate rational drug use behaviors of Dumlupınar University of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences of students and to measure the drug wastage caused by irrational drug use behavior. Therefore, a scale was applied by using previous studies. After the scale study, an econometric model was established and multiple linear regression analysis was performed. As a result of the analysis, rational drug use behavior, the attitudes of the doctor in the examination against patients, side effects in rational drug use behavior and d purchase behavior has been found to be effective on drug wastage.
