Expression of charity through art in the context of values education

In this study, it was aimed to determine how the expression of benevolence through art in the context of values education was reflected in students' works. The study group of the research consists of 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students studying in a private secondary school affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in 2023-2024, determined by the criterion sampling method. The research is an art-based qualitative study in which semiotic approach is adopted. The data of the study consisted of a semi-structured interview form, artistic products produced by students and students' stories. While the qualitative data of the research were analyzed by descriptive analysis, the original products of the students were analyzed by semiotic analysis method. According to the findings of the study, the students generally defined benevolence as helping without reciprocity, supporting those in difficult situations, social solidarity, a feeling that comes from within and that it is done with love. In addition, it was observed that they gave answers under two sub-headings: material and spiritual. In addition, it was seen that they included the current aid organizations of their time as well as the aid activities in the past in their discourse. When the drawings were analyzed, it was seen that the majority of the students used all three types of indicators. When the concept of benevolence that the students wrote and the concept of benevolence that they drew were examined, it was seen that they overlapped with each other.
