The effectiveness of EGF?s in the testis protection which formed experimentally in the laparoscopy fowler- stephens operations

In recent years, the Fowler-Stephens operation is carried out in the surgical treatment of testes? cases with intraabdominal placement. However, especially in the experimental studies it was pointed out that this operation causes testicular atrophy and testis blood supply degradation. It was also pointed out that the local application of EGF with orchiopexy combination together is more effective than the orchiopexy application only to the restoration of spermatogenesis. In this study, serum inhibin B levels were measured by applying local EGF, via laparoscopically formed Fowler-Stephens model, to evaluate testis functions.In this study 20 adult rabbits were divided into 3 groups, the testis at right hand side were removed before processing. In the first group, the testis at left hand side of subjects were cut by laparoscopic method. In the second group, the testis at left hand side were injected 100 µL EGF by 30G dosed injector and the same operation with first group were practised. In the third group, only laparoscopic imaging (sham group) were applied. Both the serum inhibin B levels and testicular histopathology of the subjects were studied after three weeks.When the extracted testis are examined, the groups applied Fowler-Stephens operation are clearly edematous and have necrosis on the testis. In terms of serum inhibin B levels, there is no significant difference between the groups. In all the groups it was pointed out that clear indication of necrosis on the histopathological examination of testes except sham group.In conclusion, even in the laparoscopy in the spermatic vessel ligation blood flow certainly decreased and EGF injected in the rete testis were not significantly provided improvement in the spermatogenesis and testis histology. However, due to the fact that serum inhibin B levels were not low shows that though spermatogenesis having some distortion but Sertoli cell functions is still continuing.
