Abstract (EN)

Ageing period is complicated and diversity process which contain transformations and different feature. İt is quite important for elderly to live quality life during ageing. For the healthy development of this period, it is necessary to provide spatial opportunities that provide the realization of activities that is the physical and psycho-social needs of the elderly. This study aims to determine the place change experienced after the January 24, 2020 Elazig earthquake and the relationship, commitment and belonging level of individuals aged 65 and over, whom we define as elderly, with the new space. It was analyzed the common issues the earthquake moment, life after the earthquake and the relocation process compiled from the memories of the elderly individuals, and the spatial and social differences between the two settlements from the eyes of the elderly individuals. The research has been carried out in the study of elderly individuals who are physically, culturally and socially belonged to a certain place, the change of place after the earthquake and the processes of getting used to the new place, their sense of belonging, In-depth interview technique was used to examine the longing for the old place. In this study, 14-questions interview guides consisting of three main headings to be directed to elderly individuals were used. Within the scope of the research, it has been tried to determine how the elderly individuals define the house in their life cycle and how the data on the perception of space gain meaning with aging. In addition, using the space in different dimensions, seeing it as a livable place of its own, and how the ideas showing different characteristics about the old and new space have changed over time have been examined.
