ABSTRACT Objective:In recent years, the relationship between Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and inflammation has been the subject of frequent studies. However, to our knowledge, there is no study on the relationship between side effects and inflammation. One of the most important problems encountered in the medical world is drug side effects. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between antidepressant drug side effects and the inflammatory markers "neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio, monocyte/HDL ratio, monocyte/lymphocyte ratio, platelet/lymphocyte ratio, white blood cell (WBC) and CRP" and to investigate possible drug- related problems. to contribute to its prevention. Materials and Methods: Between February 2023 and February 2024, people between the ages of 18-65 who applied to the Psychiatry outpatient clinic of Dicle University Faculty of Medicine Hospital were diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder according to DSM-5 criteria, 60 patients who had been using antidepressant medication for at least 1 month and developed side effects, and age, gender. and 60 healthy volunteers matched in terms of education level were included in the study after their consent was obtained. A total of two groups were created. Group 1: 60 patients diagnosed with MDD, using antidepressant medication and developing side effects, and Group 2: 60 healthy control groups were included in the study. Hemogram, CRP and HDL were studied using kits in the central laboratory of Dicle University Faculty of Medicine Hospital. 'Neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio, monocyte/HDL ratio, monocyte/lymphocyte ratio, platelet/lymphocyte ratio, WBC and CRP' levels were determined. After all participants signed a voluntary consent form, both groups were asked to fill out a sociodemographic data form. Udvalg Kliniske Undersøgelser (UKU) Side Effect Assessment Scale, Clinical Global Monitoring Scale (CGI), The Montgomery–Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) and Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAM-A) were administered only to individuals in the patient group. SPSS 24.0 package program was used in the statistical analysis of the data. Results:Important findings in this study: The side effect of concentration problems was significantly and negatively correlated with neutrophils; drowsiness/sedation side effect was significantly positively correlated with monocyte/hdl and monocyte/lymphocyte ratio; The side effect of increased dreaming was significantly and positively correlated with platelet value; The side effect of weight gain was significantly positively correlated with neutrophil, lymphocyte, and WBC values ​​and negatively with the platelet/lymphocyte ratio; The erectile dysfunction side effect was significantly negatively correlated with the platelet/lymphocyte ratio; The side effect of orgasmic disorder was significantly negatively correlated with the monocyte value; The side effect of vaginal dryness is significantly negatively correlated with the neutrophil value, and physical dependence is significantly negatively correlated with the neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio. In addition, it was observed that the monocyte count in patients using SSRI antidepressant drugs was significantly lower than in patients using non-SSRI antidepressant drugs. Conclusion:The data in this study suggest that the side effect mechanisms of antidepressants may be related to inflammatory markers. Clarifying the side effect mechanisms of antidepressant drugs may allow preventing side effects. Preventing side effects can increase treatment compliance and therefore reduce relapses and chronicity. This study is very important because it is the first one to investigate the relationship between drug side effects and inflammatory markers.
