Determination of healthy lifestyle behaviors of nurses working in hospitals in Baghdad city

Abstract (EN)

Aim: This study, was aimed to determine the healthy lifestyle behaviors of nurses working in Baghdad city hospitals. Methodology: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted between 05.12.2021 and 01.06.2022 at Ibn El-Nafis Hospital, Ibn El-Balady Child and Maternity Hospital and Al-Kindi Training Hospital in Baghdad. The population of the study consisted of nurses working in these hospitals. The sample of the study consisted of 270 nurses who agreed to participate in the study at the data collection dates. 'Personal Information Form' and 'Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors Scale' were used to collect data. Results: The mean age of the study group was 35.60±12.21, 55.5% male, 77% married and 21.1% university graduate. The total mean score of the Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors Scale of the nurses participating in the study was 167.36 ± 88.47. It was determined that the stress management and physical activity sub-dimension scores of the Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors Scale were higher in the 36-40 age group, married, university graduates and those with normal body mass index compared to the other groups, and the difference was statistically significant (p≤0.05). Conclusion: The results of the study showed that healthy lifestyle behaviors of nurses are generally good, but physical activity and stress management levels are affected by variables such as marital status, education and body mass index.
