Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT Introduction and Aim: Injuries and deaths due to sharp objects are common in forensic medicine practice. In our study, the gender of the cases, the age at the date of the event, the number of injuries, anatomically where the body was injured, the authority that sent us, seasonal characteristics of his injury, the first hospital he applied to, whether he was transferred to another hospital after his first visit, the clinic and length of stay in the hospital due to his injury, whether there was any other additional injury, if any, what he was injured with it is aimed to investigate the reports of the cases in terms of the articles specified in the section on injury in the Turkish Penal Code according to the Turkish Penal Code injury guide. Materials and Methods: In our study, 391 cases from Dicle University Faculty of Medicine Department of Forensic Medicine due to Sharpening Injury between 01.01.2016-30.06.2020 were included in our study. Results: The distribution of the 391 cases by gender was 364 (93%) male, 27 (7%) female. Maximum cases were sent by prosecutor's office with 186 (47,6%). The second most frequent with 161 cases (41.2%) was referred by law enforcement. It was found that 143 (36.6%) cases were between the ages of 21-30. It was determined that the incident occurred most frequently in July, with 49 (12.5%) cases. It was found that 173 cases (44.2%) were discharged on the same day. It was found that the most injured body area was the thorax area with 69 (17.6%) cases, 314 (80.3%) cases could not be treated with simple medical intervention, and 186 (47.6%) cases had an injury that endangered their lives. Conclusion: Since it is known that pointed and sharp-edged weapons are also used to injure and kill people, it is an inevitable fact that necessary precautions should be taken to prevent such tools from being used for murder and injury.
