The agreement of the participation levels of adolescents with attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder in terms of adolescent and parental perspectives

Objective: The purpose of the study is to compare self-reported and parent-reported measures of adolescent participation in extracurricular activities for children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It's also about evaluating the same method on people who are otherwise healthy and contrasting the outcomes. Method: Sixty-one adolescents with ADHD and sixty-six healthy peers aged 12-17 years participated in the study. In order to determine the participation level of these adolescents, the Participation and Environment Meause Children and Youth/PEM-CY scale was completed by both the adolescent and their parent. Conners Parent Rating Scale Revised Long Version/CEDÖ Y/U scale filled in by parents of adolescents was used to determine ADHD symptoms. In addition, the sociodemographic information of the adolescents was also recorded. Results: When the participation level was examined, it was shown that the participation level of adolescents with ADHD was generally lower than their healthy peers. In addition, the agreement between adolescents with ADHD and their parents PEM-CY results was found to be lower than that between adolescents without ADHD and their parents in home, school, and community settings. Finally, the PEM-CY scale includes the categories of frequency of participation, extent of involvement, and desire for change. The lowest fit among these categories was found in desire for change. Conclusion: Adolescents with ADHD have a lower level of participation than their healthy peers. The agreement between adolescents with ADHD and their parents' PEM-CY results is less than between adolescents without ADHD and their parents' PEM-CY outcomes.
