Students' and teachers' perception of religion-science within the framework of the interdisciplinary dimension of religious education (Relogious culture and moral knowledge - science example)

The relationship between religion and science is among the topics that have always been discussed and wondered from the past to the present. The relationship between these two concepts is not only a subject that concerns fields such as religion, science and philosophy. At the same time, this relationship needs to be clearly defined in the field of education. For this reason, the aim of this research can be expressed as evaluating the relationship between religion and science in a disciplinary way and evaluating it in both student and teacher dimensions. In line with the purpose of the research, phenomenological research approach, which is among the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. In the study, 16 secondary school students determined by the purposeful sampling method consist of 4 science teachers and 4 religious culture teachers. In the study, the data were collected with a semi-structured interview form and interview technique was used. Content and descriptive analysis method was used in the analysis of the data. Themes and sub-themes were determined in line with the data obtained from teachers and students. In line with the results of the research, the themes created in line with the findings obtained from secondary school students; perception of religion, perception of science, perception of the relationship between religion and science, common concepts and relationships related to science and religion course, educational experiences in the development of religious science perception, suggestions for the relationship of science and religion courses. The themes created in line with the findings obtained from the science teachers participating in the research; The relationship of the science course with other fields, the perception of religion, the relationship between religion and science, the reflection of the relationship between religion and science on the science course, common concepts, suggestions for students to establish the relationship between religion and science correctly, suggestions for the two courses for the effectiveness of the science course. In addition, the themes created in line with the findings obtained from religious culture teachers; The relationship of the religion course with other fields, the perception of religion, the relationship between religion and science, the reflection of the relationship between religion and science on the religion lesson, common concepts, the adequacy of textbooks and materials, suggestions for students to establish the relationship between religion and science correctly, suggestions for science and religion lessons for the effectiveness of the religion course. In line with the results obtained, suggestions were made about both the subject and future research.
