Determination of antioxidant antimicrobial and muthagenic activity of Cynara syriaca methanol extract growing in and around Diyarbakir

Abstract (EN)

In this study,the metanol extracts? antimicrobial, antioxidan and muthagenic activities have been determined through an Cynara syriaca?s leaves and flowers .The antimicrobial activities of C. syriaca methanol extracts that are acquired from leaves and flowers have been tested on patoghenic 4 bacteries (Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Pseodumonas aeruginosa) and a yeast (Candida albicans) through using disc diffusion method. It is determined that both leaf and flower extracts have not enough antimicrobial effect against test microorganisms.Antioxidant capacity has been tested through using leaf and flowers? methanol essences and by DPPH(2,2-difenilpikrilhidrazil) method. According to the results, the methanolic essence of C. syriaca?s leaves has showed 9.7% inhibition in 5 mg/ml concentration, 38.8% in 10 mg/ml and 88.9% in 20 mg/ml.The methanolic essences of plants? flowers have showed 38.0% inhibition in 5mg/ml concentration,92.2% in 10 mg/ml and 92.5 % in 20 mg/ml. According to the acquired results from free radical activity, it has been determined that leaf and flower essences show enough DPPH activity compared to the standard substances.Also,the total Folin-ciocalteu method and the total phenol content of C.syriaca essences have been determined. When determining total phenolic content, Gallic acid has been used as a standard. The results of standard graphic equation as Gallic acid ekivalent, it has been determined that there is 4.08±0.1 mg/ml leaf esence and 4.89±0.04 mg/ml flower essence in 10 mg/ml concentration, and also there is 5.37±0.03 mg/ml leaf essence and 7.15±0.2 mg/ml flower essence in 20 mg/ml concentration.Mutajenic activities of C. syriaca metanol?s extracts are determined both on the test system of Ames/salmonella mikrozom and on the strains of Salmonella TA98 and TA100. It?s observed that leaf extracts haven?t the mutajenic activities on test strains both Salmonella TA98 and TA100.Keywords: Antioxidant Activity, Antimicrobial Activity, Mutagenic Activity, Cynara syriaca
