Restoration suggestion of Diyarbakır Paşa (Behram) Hammam

Main issue of this research is Paşa (Behram) Hammam, a historical artifact, which is located in Diyarbakır and from 16th century's Ottoman Period. The reason of this research is helping Paşa (Behram) Hammam, which provided service with its original function up to a close time, hand down the next generations by using and protecting in the principles of scientific restoration. Prepared restoration suggestion consists of 7 parts. In the first part; the reason and importance of structure has been explained and the method of structure examination has been defined. In the second part previous studies related with the issue have been explained. In the third part; firstly traditional hammam architecture has been studied, historical progress of hammams has been explained. Then 16th century hammams, especially which are located in Sur district of Diyarbakır and have similar characteristics, have been studied. In the fourth part, firstly the characteristics of the environment in which Paşa (Behram) Hammam is in, historical fabric of Diyarbakır and socio-cultural structure of Diyarbakır has shortly been explained. Then short history and characteristics of Paşa (Behram) Hammam which has come up to now with its originality up to now has been explained and current situation has been analyzed. In the scope of thesis, 1/50 scaled building survey of hammam has been prepared; material and damage assessment has been done. At the same time, the definition of structure and changes undergone by scrutinizing written and visual resources has been done. In the fifth part in which restitution stage has been explained, details and elements which give concrete information about original structure of hammam have been analyses; restitution problems have been defined. Restitution suggestion has been explained with 1/50 scaled drawing. In the sixth part; necessary interventions to make hammam continue its physical existence have been defined, then hammam's re-usage possibilities have been discussed in the direction of accepted criteria. In the seventh part the results of research have been given. To the ends of study, hammam was damaged due to security problems in Diyarbakır Suriçi Region. In the period of thesis completion, necessary examination has not been done as it was forbidden to go into the related region. Thus study has been completed according to basis of Paşa (Behram) Hammam's situation in 2015. Key Words: Restoration, Diyarbakır, Hammam, Water Architecture
