Characterization of some local melon genotypes grown in Diyarbakır

Abstract (EN)

In this study, 36 melon genotypes which are collected from districts of Diyarbakır; Ergani, Silvan, Bismil, Hazro, Lice, Hani, Kocaköy and from Erimli village, were characterized.The aim of this research is, in terms of yield and quality can be made breeding economically, collecting by determining the local melon types of Diyarbakır which are snonymous with the region, protection and doing the characterization that will be proposed breeding works in the future.In this study, some of measurements and observations at seedling, plant, fruit and seed were investigated according to the criteria of the UPOV. Some of them were; hypocotyl length, intensity of green color of cotyledon, height of plant, legth of leaf, diameter of leaf, weigth of fruit, length of fruit, diameter of fruit, flesh firmness of fruit, shell thickness of furit, size of seed, and shape of seedAs a result of this research, all genotypes showed differences from each other in investigated characters like; weight of fuit, ground color of fruit skin and main color of flesh. In the light of the data obtained from this study, the VN2136, VN2116, VN2120 and VN2138-coded types of genotypes was found to be provising for breeding work.
