Abstract (EN)

Environmental issues such as ever-increasing energy demand, dwindling fossil fuel deposits, national security and global warming, and higher levels of air pollution necessitate a shift to renewable fuels. For this reason, academic studies have been focusing on the use of cleaner, safer, sustainable and renewable fuels for fossil fuels in recent years. In these fuels, energy production from sources that are considered waste takes an important place. In this way, waste is brought to the national economy, albeit indirectly, and also creates alternatives to energy sources. Waste vegetable oils as a secondary source are considered to be an important energy source. Because vegetable or animal fats have been used as an energy source in diesel engines since the first patent for a diesel engine. As such, waste oils have an important energy source potential. Biodiesel, which can be produced with domestic and national resources in recent years, is seen as an important fuel source to replace fossil fuels. In fact, many countries offer fuel blended mixtures that are mixed in certain proportions of diesel fuel for commercial sale. In this way, countries that are dependent on fossil fuels aim to reduce their dependence on abroad. Biodiesel is a type of fuel produced for motor vehicles produced as a result of converting vegetable, animal or secondary oils into a type of fuel that can be used in internal combustion engines as a result of thermochemical treatment with alcohol. This process can be applied with raw vegetable oils, as well as produced with the use of waste oils. However, in recent years, due to increasing food needs, concerns have been growing about the use of agricultural land for energy agriculture purposes. Therefore, energy production from secondary products has become more prominent. In this case, motor vehicle fuels that will be obtained from waste oils are more prominent. Biodiesel production is costly and requires technical knowledge. Therefore, the increase in energy production costs occurs. For this, it is necessary to produce new ways of directly using waste oils without producing biodiesel. This master's thesis is also aimed at the use of waste oils by the micro-emulsion method. The waste oils obtained for this purpose were obtained from the dining hall of Muş Alparslan University. The resulting waste oils were first passed through a thick filter, and then through a fuel filter. The resulting waste oils were heated at a temperature of 110 oC and the water in them was removed. After that, the waste oils obtained were added to the diesel fuel by 10% waste oil by volume and a DAG fuel mixture was formed. After that, new fuel mixtures were created by adding Glycol Butyl Ether at a rate of 5% (DAGD5), 10% (DAGD10) and 20% (DAGD20) by volume to these fuel mixtures. The viscosity, density and thermal values of the obtained mixtures were analyzed at Malatya İnönü University. The resulting fuel mixtures were kept for 24 hours and no precipitation was observed. After that, engine experiments were started. Engine experiments were carried out in the engine test laboratory of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Muş Alparslan University. For engine experiments, the engine was repeated with each fuel mixture at a constant engine speed of 3000 rpm and an engine load of 20%, 40%, 60% and 80%. During the engine experiments, the exhaust gas temperature, exhaust gas emission values (CO, HC, CO2, is) and fuel consumption values of the engine were recorded. The data obtained were graphed and discussed in the thesis. Along with the addition of waste oil to diesel fuel, the value of specific fuel consumption (ÖT), CO, HC and IS emissions has increased, and CO2 emissions have shown a tendency to decrease. In addition, with the addition of butyl di glycol ether to diesel fuel / waste oil, the fuel consumption value increased, and CO, CO2, IS and HC emissions decreased and improved.
