Abstract (EN)

Strengthening and increasing the market share of Turkey in the global upholstery fabrics industry depend on better performance quality of the manufactured upholstery fabrics. Thus, the effects of production parameters on the usage performances of the fabrics should be known and the problems, which may arise during usage, should be predicted beforehand so that they can be avoided. In the context of this study, general knowledge about woven upholstery fabrics, production methods of these fabrics and the performance tests applied to these fabrics are given and the mechanical properties of woven upholstery fabric samples manufactured within this study are examined. For this purpose, fabric samples with two different weft densities and of three different weave patterns with two warp and weft yarns whose raw materials were different were manufactured in order to investigate the effect of fibre type and fabric properties. The physical and mechanical properties such as weight per unit area, breaking strength, elongation at break, tear strength, seam slippage resistance of yarns, abrasion resistance, propensity to surface fuzziness and to pilling were determined by relevant tests. Based on the results, the effect of the fibre type, weave pattern and weft density on the mechanical properties of upholstery fabrics were determined and statically evaluated.
