Examination of identity orientation, mood and body perception in individuals who get tattoos

Özet (EN)

The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between identity orientation, mood and body perception in individuals who get tattoos. A total of 265 participants between the ages of 18 and 45 withtattoos (n=165) and with out tattoos (n=100) constituted the study group. The sample was taken as a criterion for tattoo individuals. SPSS v26 program was used for analysis. The dependent variables of the research were classified as; body perception scale, mood profile, identity scale and itssub-dimensions. The independent variables were classified as; tattooed and non-tattoo edgroup, gender, education level, visibility of tattoo, regret status and number of tattoos. Independent Sample T-Test for two categorical variables, Anova F-Test (Analysis) for three or more categorical variables have been used. Correlation analysis has been made in order to determine the relationships between variables. In addition, the Mann–Whitney U test and The Kruskal-Wallis test have been made in cases where the lack of parametric conditions. At the end of research, it is discovered that there is a marked statistically difference between the participants point averages over tension-anxiety, depression-destiny, anger-aggression, tiredness-laziness, confusion according to whether there is tattoo on a body or not. It is discovered that the tattooed participants' tension-anxiety, depression-destiny, anger-aggression, tiredness-laziness and confusion point average are lower than the non-tattooed participants' point average. It is established that there is no clear difference between the participants' total BPS point averages according to whether there is a tattoo on their body or not. However, it is discovered that there is a clear statistically difference between the participants' collective identity point averages according to whether there is a tattoo on their body or not. The findings derived from the research result have been discussed in terms of literal consistency and other variables effecting the results and several solutions have been offered.
