Investigating the effects of the heart of parenting emotion coaching programme on mothers' attitudes

This study aims to explore the effects of The Heart of Parenting - Emotion Coaching Programme on mothers' attitudes. The research method is determined as pretest posttest experimental control group design. The independent variable is The Heart of Parenting – Emotion Coaching Programme and the dependent variable is the mothers' attitudes. The measurements are the demographic information form, Parent Attitute Scale (Demir ve Şendil, 2007) and Maternal Emotional Style Questionaire (EDSÖ) (Lagacé-Séguin, 2005). The voluntary participants consist of Istanbul, Büyükçekmece, Akçansa Fatih Sultan Mehmet Elementary School students' mothers. The sample includes 84 mothers. There are 43 mothers in experimental group and 41 mothers in control group. The experimental group is applied, pretest, DKEE and posttest. The control group is applied only pretest and posttest. One way analysis of covariance (One way ANCOVA) is used to examine assumptions and to determine whether there are significantly difference between experimental and control groups' posttest scores. The significant value of analysis is .005. The analysis shows that, there is significant difference between the groups. The scores of mothers' on democratic parenting and emotion coaching parenting attitude are significantly increased in experimental group. The authoritative parenting attitude scores, over protective parenting scores and emotion dismissive parenting scores are significantly decreased in experimental group. There is no significant difference between the permissive parenting scores of experimental and control groups. The results are discussed and in reference to literature.
