The determination and evaluation of green infrastructure components on Duzce urban center

Although today's cities are the places where environmental problems and disasters are most intense, they are one of the main sources of these problems. Solving the problem at its source is actually the only real solution. In this context, many approaches, models, plans, etc. related to sustainable cities are being developed. Green infrastructure plans are one of them. Green infrastructure plans; developing sustainable city plans, making appropriate land use decisions, reducing environmental problems and disaster risk, etc. provides contributions. This thesis was carried out in the city of Düzce, which has misuse of land, environmental problems and disaster risk. The starting point of the thesis; It constitutes the idea that an urban planning produced on the basis of sustainable principles/approaches is an effective tool in reducing environmental problems and disaster risk. In this context, the aim of the thesis; The aim is to determine the components of the green infrastructure system that can contribute to the urban planning in the study area and at the same time form a base, and to reveal the current status of these components. In addition, the possible contributions of green infrastructure systems to the city will be revealed and the situation regarding the development of green infrastructure will be evaluated. In line with this purpose, first of all, green infrastructure components were determined in the light of different urban-scale planning approaches (zoning, statip and forest management plans). ArcGis 10.5 program and overlap analysis were used to determine the components. In the evaluation of the current status of the components, five categories (5: Very Much, 4: Excess, 3: Moderate, 2: Little, 1: Not at all) were established in terms of protection/sensitivity. The contribution of the development of green infrastructure plans to the field of study; evaluated with a measurement form prepared on the basis of the literature. The applicability of a green infrastructure plan in the study area was examined with SWOT (Strong, Weak, Opportunity, Threat) analysis. The findings revealed that urbanization and urban sprawl in the study area fragmented and threatened the green infrastructure components. This situation turns the solution into a problem. As a result, green infrastructure components were determined in the study area and suggestions were made on the basis of the protection-use principle.
