Özet (EN)

The study has been done as descriptive, correlation-seeking design to determine adolescents 'internet addiction through parent and adolescent evaluation and to examine the effect of parent-adolescent relationship on adolescents' Internet addiction. The research has been done in an Anatolian High School in Izmir between October - November 2019. The sample of the study consisted of a total of 392 people, 196 students and their parents. In data collection, Personal Information Forms, Short Form of Young's Internet Addiction Test (YIAT-SF), Parent-Adolescent Relationship Scale and Parent- Child Internet Addiction Test (PCIAT) were used. Number and percentage distribution, t-test, one-way variance analysis, Kruskal Wallis-H test, correlation analysis and linear regression analysis were used to evaluate the data. According to the adolescent report, it was found out that 5.1% of the adolescents have internet addiction, while according to the family report, 8.2% of the adolescents are in the "Limited Symptom Group" group. According to the adolescent and family reports, the internet addiction scores differ significantly by internet usage status when the family is together (p <0.05). The social isolation sub-dimension of the MPSAS sub-dimensions shows a significant difference in male adolescents compared to their female counterparts (p <0.05). According to the family report, as the mother-adolescent relationship increases in the mother dimension of the Relations with Parents Scale score, the internet addiction score decreases and internet addiction explains 3% of the change (R^2=0.03, p<0.05). According to the adolescent report, as the father-adolescent relationship increases in the father dimension of the Relations with Parents Scale score, the internet addiction score decreases and internet addiction explains 6% of the change (R^2= 0.06, p <0.05). Internet addiction levels of adolescents are similar according to family and adolescent reports. As the relationship of adolescents with their mother and father decreases, their internet addiction scores increase. According to the family report, the relationship between the adolescent and mother predicts 3% of internet addiction, and according to the adolescent report, the relationship between the adolescent and father predicts 6%. It is recommended that intervention programs to improve family and adolescent relations, along with planned trainings for families and adolescents on internet addiction be carried out. Since internet addiction scores are higher in male adolescents and adolescents whose mothers are high school graduates, it is recommended to monitor this group in terms of risk in school counseling services and to create programs for this accordingly.
