The understanding of Abu al-Faraj Ibn al-Jawzi's (D. 597/1201) transmitted attributes and his criticism of Hanbalis approach

In this study, Abu al-Faraj Ibn al-Jawzi's understanding of khabari adjectives and his criticisms of some Hanbalis in this direction, taking into account his view on ta'wil, were examined by comparing them with his own work and the works of the scholars he criticized. The thesis consists of the introduction, the following three chapters and the conclusion. In the "Introduction" section, the subject and purpose of the research, its method and the main sources referenced are stated. In the first chapter, general information about "The Attributes of Allah" and "Methods of Understanding the Informative Adjectives" is given under the title of "Methods in Understanding the Hereditary Attributes". In the second chapter, under the title of "Ibn al-Jawzi's Understanding of the Haberî Attributes", first of all, the meanings of "Muslim and Mutesabih Verses According to Ibn al-Jawzi" and the dictionary and term meanings of the aforementioned concepts are explained. -Cevzi's Understanding of Ta'vil" and "Ibn al-Jawzi's Understanding of Haberi" were examined in detail by referring to their own works, and their interpretations of literal adjectives were added to the research. In the third chapter, the subject of "Ibn al-Jawzi's Criticisms Against Hanbalis" has been tried to be determined by expressing "The Issues Which Hanbalis Are Wrong With According to Ibn al-Jawzi". It has been reported that he found it wrong, and "The Opinions of Qadi Abu Ya'la al-Ferrâ and İbnü'z-Zâgūnî and İbnü'l-Cevzi's Criticisms Against Themselves" over the adjectives "vech", "'ayn" and "yed". It has been tried to be revealed by comparing language and style. In the "Conclusion" part, the concepts of "muhkam", "mutashabih" and "ta'wil" were mentioned and the general principle of Ibn al-Jawzi in understanding khabari attributes was touched upon. In addition, it has been determined which of the methods of understanding the khabari adjectives corresponds to his attitude on this subject, and it has been mentioned whether he is directed towards ta'wil or tawiz.
