The effect of groundwater on building foundations

This research aimed to explore and examine the effect of groundwater on building foundations. The descriptive analytical approach was adopted. This approach is based on the examination and exploration of real-life situations or phenomena, with a focus on providing a precise and comprehensive depiction of them. It involves describing these phenomena with accuracy, both qualitatively and quantitatively, utilizing specific methods that involve gathering data and analyzing its content. The applied method was used, which included the use of many statistical methods and treatments related to the subject of the study. The sample procedure was a random sampling technique whereby a number of dints from a randomly selected samples would be considered for the sake of varying conclusions and accurate analysis of results. A sample of (60) respondents were depended. SPSS program was used, the main results were, it is important to assess the groundwater level in the area, the impact of groundwater on buildings can be seen in a number of ways. There is a number of construction alternatives that can be used to control the impact of groundwater on buildings. There is a number of obstacles that can prevent the implementation of these construction alternatives. One obstacle is the lack of finance. The main recommends is the rise of water by capillary action through the walls of buildings can be controlled by incorporating damp proof membrane such as, asphalt, polythene which will serve as a barrier between water from the ground and the walls and floors.
