The opinions of education staff about the existing situation of unions and their expectations from unions

The purpose of this research is to determine the works of the unions and the expectations from them in the context of the opinions of the education staff. "Phenomenological" research design, which is among the qualitative research designs, has been used in this study. The study group of this research is composed of the provincial national education director, the provincial national education assistant directors, the district national education directors, branch managers, education inspectors, school principals, school vice principals, chiefs, officers and supporting service staff, working in Gaziantep in 2018-2019 academic year. In this research, the semi-structured interview method is used as the data collection tool. The data has been analyzed with descriptive analysis method. According to the findings obtained from the research; it has been determined that education unions have been working in the fields of contribution to health, culture, social life and professional development, women education staff, retired education staff, education and curriculum, equality of facility and opportunity, laws and regulations on the personal, social and financial rights, national, moral and cultural values, religion education, physical and social improvement of working environments, basic rights and freedoms and providing unity, solidarity and cooperation. In the research, it has been obtained that education unions have the most work in health, culture, social life and professional development and education and curriculum. It has been concluded that the education unions have been working in the fields of retired education staff and unity, solidarity and cooperation between education staff least. Similarly, the expectations from the education unions are related to the fields mentioned above. The areas where the most expectations from the education unions are health, culture, social life, professional development and retired education staff. According to the findings and the conclusions of the research; the education unions, together with their members must be actively involved with scientific works and projects to identify and resolve problems in the field and practice related to education. Furthermore, education unions should act in cooperation and work on the basic rights and freedoms such as personal, financial and social rights, organize activities that provide Professional and social development for teachers, and study by taking into account the rights and expectations of retired education staff and female teachers.
