The views of students of faculty of education and faculty members regarding teaching professional ethics values: Hidden curriculum while gaining professional ethics values

This research is a qualitative study which has aimed at revealing the views of the students of faculty of education and faculty members related to the values of teaching profession ethics and being examined the role of hidden program profoundly in the process of the professional ethics values' gain. Related to the aim of research, it has been used the phenomenological method which is one of the methods of qualitative research. The study group of research has been constituted by the students of faculty of education who studied in the different departments in Buca Faculty of Education of the University of Dokuz Eylul, Izmir and the faculty members who work in this faculty in the academic year between 2014-2015. The study group of research has been determined with the method of criterion sampling which is one of the method of purposive samplings. In accordance with the determined criterions, 8 faculty members and 54 final year students have taken part in the research. Tha datas of research have been obtained through semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, the observations and the researcher's diary. In the research, the qualitatives datas, which obtained through the interviews and observations, have been analyzed in the way of descriptive analysis and content analysis and made relevant interpretations. As to the datas incidental to the researcher's diary, it has not been analyzed separately because of the fact that it has been used with the aim of being supportive data in the view of research process and the analysis of observation datas. As a result of the research, the students of the faculty of education have stated the values of ethics of teaching occupation in order of respect, equality, justice, objectivity, love, perpetual improvement, responsibility and trust. The faculty members have stated them in order of justice, equality, respect, responsibility, to be enough in occupational regards, empathy, objectivity, trust, perpetual improvement, love and not to graft. Within the context of the research, with reference to interviews and observations done, it has occured that hidden curriculum has an effect on the students of faculty of education to gain the values of the teaching profession ethics. Besides, as part of the hidden curriculum it has been come to the conclusion that the faculty members predominantly try to gain the students those values which determined by giving model incidents and making explanations as models. In addition to this, as part of the hidden curriculum, it has been concluded that the faculty members predominantly suggest resources, provide theoretical knowledge, make explanations, lead way, direct to the activities related to the profession, in regard to gaining the students teaching professional ethics values determined as professional sufficiency.
