Our clinical experiences in endovascular aorta repairs

Objective: This study aims to evaluate preoperative and postoperative laboratory, clinical, surgical, and radiological data and investigate the sociodemographic characteristics of patients aged 19-84 years who underwent endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) and thoracic endovascular aneurysm repair (TEVAR) in the Dicle University Department of Cardiovascular Surgery (CVS) between 2012-2017 and to compare these data with the literature. Materials and Methods: In this study, 75 patients aged 19-84 years, who underwent EVAR and TEVAR for aortic aneurysm and dissection in Dicle University Department of Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic between 2012-2017 were evaluated retrospectively. Results: In patients who underwent endovascular intervention, the ratios of male gender, advanced age, hypertension (HT), coronary artery disease (CAD) and smoking were higher. Duration of follow-up in intensive care unit, duration of hospital stay, duration of operation were monitored shortly in line with the general literature. Our early mortality rates in ruptured and non-ruptured aortic aneurysm dissections were lower than the results obtained in international studies of open surgery. The rates of endoleak, migration, paraplegia, wound site infections, and acute renal failure, which are common complications seen after TEVAR and EVAR, were consistent with the overall literature. The rates of additional procedures such as endarterectomy, femorofemoral bypass and embolectomy were low. There was a statistically significant difference in the preoperative and postoperative distribution of hemoglobin (Hg), urea and creatinine levels. Conclusion: Our success and complication rates in patients who underwent endovascular repair in aortic pathologies are compatible with the international literature. We believe these treatment methods are applicable at Dicle University Cardiovascular Surgery clinic, which serves many cities in our region. Keywords: Endovascular, Aorta, EVAR, TEVAR
