Abstract (EN)

The Industrial Revolution, which was born in England in the 18th century and soon affected the whole world, has significantly affected the history of humanity in terms of technological, economic, sociological and political aspects. Industrial structures that developed with the Industrial Revolution were also built according to the size, shape and functions of the machines used in this period. Railways, which are closely related to the development of the industry, have also enabled the rapid development and spread of technology with innovative developments in the fields of transportation and transportation. However, over time, these structures, which could not keep up with the rapidly developing technology, have been out of use due to the change in the production style of industrial areas, the relocation of industrial structures outside the residential areas, the increasing rent values, the production of fast and cheap different transportation systems in the transportation sector. For these reasons, the heritage, which is described as industrial and railway heritage, is being re-functionalized to protect it today. In order to examine the re-functioning applications in line with the above reasons, this thesis study is considered within the scope of the railway heritage that needs to be preserved, the building group that was built as the Mudanya Customs and Station building within the Bursa-Mudanya Railway line in the Ottoman Period and is now re-functionalized as the Montania Hotel. Data by using qualitative research method in the research; Observation, interview and document analysis were collected and architectural drawings of the building were made in the light of the information obtained. As a result of these evaluations, the re-functioning stages of historical buildings and their subsequent interventions towards the interior were evaluated by determining criteria for the preservation of the original texture by taking the articles of various international protection criteria as reference. It is thought that this study will guide the future re-functioning studies as a method proposal for the preservation of the interior spaces of historical buildings.
