The relationship between digital game addiction and meaning in life in adolescents

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between digital game addiction and meaning in life in adolescents. For this purpose, the relationship between digital game addiction and meaning in life in high school students was examined in terms of various demographic variables. The dependent variables of the study are digital game addiction and meaning in life. The demographic variables of the study are gender, age, school type, grade level, parental relationship, economic status and education level. This research, which is in accordance with the descriptivemodel, one of the quantitative research methods, was carried out with the data obtained from a total of 487 students, 150 girls and 337 boys, studying in different high schools in Maltepe district of Istanbul province in the 2020-2021 academic year. In the study, data were collected with a personal information form prepared by the researcher, Game Addiction Scale for Adolescents Short Form and Meaning in Life Scale. The data collected within the scope of the research were analysed using SPSS 25.0 software. As a result of the research, it was determined that there was no statistically significant relationship between digital game addiction and the search for meaning in life, but there was a negative and low level significant relationship between digital game addiction and the existence of meaning in life.
