Investigation of the relationship between cognitive flexibility of adolescents and peer bullying and victimization

The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between adolescents' cognitive flexibility and peer bullying and victimization. The data of the study were obtained from 1065 high school students studying in Kilis city center. In the collection of the data, "Cognitive Flexibility Scale Adolescent Form", "Adolescent Peer Relations Scale Bully and Victim Form" and "Personal Information Form" were used. During the analysis of the data t-test, ANOVA, Tukey test from post-hoc tests, Mann Whitney test for comparison of two independent groups, Kruskal Wallis test for comparison of more than two independent groups were used together with descriptive statistics. According to the research findings; It was found that there is a negative significant relationship between the level of cognitive flexibility and verbal bullying, emotional bullying, and physical victimization in adolescents. Analyzes were made according to some demographic variables, and as a result of the analyzes made, according to gender; verbal and physical bullying levels of boys were higher than girls, and emotional victimization levels of girls were higher than boys. In terms of the type of school, It was determined that the cognitive flexibility levels of Science and Anatolian High School students were higher than Vocational and Imam Hatip High School students. It was observed that the verbal and emotional bullying levels of the Imam Hatip High School students were lower than the Anatolian and Science High School students, and the emotional victimization levels were lower than the Anatolian, Science and Vocational High School students. According to the grade level; It was determined that the cognitive flexibility levels of the 11th-grade students were lower than the 9th and 10th-grade students, and the emotional bullying level showed a significant difference in the peer bullying levels. According to the economic status of the families; it was found that participants with high economic status had higher cognitive flexibility than participants with low and moderate levels, while verbal and physical victimization levels were lower in peer victimization levels than participants with low and moderate levels.
