A longitudinal investigation of the relationship between perception of parent in adolescence and ontological well-being of adolescents

In this study, the relationship between perceived parental attitudes (parental involvement, parental autonomy support, and parental warmth) by the adolescent during adolescence (age 15, 16, 17) with the adolescent's ontological well-being was examined longitudinally. 218 adolescent participants consisting of 116 girls and 102 boys ranging between the ages of 15-17 took part in the study. Research data were collected over a three-year period with one-year intervals. "Personal Information Form", "Perception of Parental Scale", and "Ontological Well-Being Scale" were used to collect research data. In the analysis of the data, in accordance with the purpose of the study, measurement invariance analysis of three different time measurements taken from individuals during adolescence and latent growth analysis was performed to examine the change of these measurements over time. According to the findings, measurement equivalence of all variables measured at three different times was tested. According to the findings of the latent growth analysis, while maternal warmth predicts the change in the ontological well-being levels of adolescents in both sexes, maternal involvement and maternal autonomy support do not predict the change. On the contrary, father involvement predicts change in both sexes. In addition, while perceived paternal warmth and father autonomy support predict female adolescents' ontological well-being at the beginning, it does not predict the change. For male adolescents, perceived paternal warmth and father autonomy support predict to the intercept and to the change over the years. The findings were discussed and interpreted in the light of the literature and implications were presented to researchers and practitioners considering the limitations of the study.
