Abstract (EN)

Aim: To examine the dispositional flow state and self-esteem of university students in terms of doing exercise and sports gender, individual and group sport and to reveal the relationship between dispositional flow and self-esteem. Method: The research was in relational screening model. Study sample group was composed of 200 licensed athletes and 200 exercising, totally 400 university students from Akdeniz University, studying in 2017-208 academic year. As a data collection tool, "dispositional flow state scale-2 (SOPDDÖ-2)" that was developed by Jackson and Eklund (2004) and Turkish version validity and reliability tested by Aşçı et al. and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale developed by Rosenberg (1965) and adapted by Çuhadaroğlu (1986) were used. In the analysis of the data, since the data were normally distributed, the t-test was used in paired comparisons and Pearson's correlation coefficient test was used to determine the relationship. Result: A statistically significant difference was found in the specific feedback sub-dimension of the dispositional flow state of female students performing exercise and sports and in the sub-dimension of the transformation of time in terms of performing individual and group sports. A statistically significant difference was found in favor of the students performing sports in the sub-dimensions of the task difficulty-skill balance, open goals, specific feedback and goal-reaching experience according to the exercise or sports situation of the students. Medium and low relation were found in the positive way between dispositional flow state and self-esteem of students performing exercise and sport. Conclusion: Dispositional flow state level of the students performing sports was higher in the sub-dimensions of the task difficulty-skill balance, open goals, specific feedback and goal-reaching experience in terms of the exercise or sports situation of the students. As the students' dispositional flow increase , their self-esteem increases. Keywords: Dispositional flow state, self-esteem, sport, exercise.
