Abstract (EN)

The Ugandan government is building an infrastructure to deploy Industry 4.0 technology in manufacturing supply chains in an effort to improve a number of policies. Regardless of the motivations behind Industry 4.0, it is crucial to recognize that there are a number of barriers to its implementation. Research on the obstacles to industry 4.0 adoption in manufacturing supply chains in poor nations, such as Uganda, is nonetheless lacking. We created a methodology for identifying the impediments to the start of industry 4.0 in Uganda's industrial supply chains using academic research and expert comments. Finally, we rated the obstacles according to their prominence and influence by utilizing the DEMATEL technique to show the causal linkages between the barriers. The biggest obstacles we found were a lack of understanding of Industry 4.0, a lack of skills and expertise, a lack of major investment, a lack of standards and rules, and a requirement for policy changes. On the other hand, a lack of infrastructure, security risk, problems with data accuracy, worry about losing your job, and aversion to change were the biggest obstacles. Finally, we conducted a number of sensitivity tests to make sure our suggested framework was reliable and transferable. The results of our study will be valuable to managers, educators, and governments, and they will help to remove significant obstacles to the adoption of industry 4,0 technology in industrial supply chains worldwide, not just in Uganda.
