Factors affecting cabin crews' safety reporting attitudes

In order to preserve flight safety, the goal of the aviation reporting system is to identify faults that occur throughout the operation process but result in minimal or no harm. In this context, cabin crew members, who are required to play a proactive role in ensuring flight safety, report the operational threats and risks they observe, making major contributions to the safety reporting system. This study intends to identify the characteristics that influence cabin crew members' safety reporting attitudes. In accordance with the study's objective, a questionnaire was administered to cabin crew members employed by an airline firm with a home base at Istanbul Airport. The study's sample includes 361 cabin crew members. Using the IBM SPSS 22 and SmartPLS 4 tools, data gathered from cabin crew members was evaluated. According to the study's findings, positive safety practices, self-efficacy, perceived benefits, and perceived costs all influenced safety reporting attitudes. Among the study's findings is that perceived benefits of reporting act as a mediator between self-efficacy and attitudes toward safety reporting. Male cabin crew members had significantly higher self-efficacy perceptions than female cabin crew members, and cabin chiefs and pursers had significantly higher worry about appraisal, reporting intention, and knowledge level perceptions than cabin clerks, according to the results of the analysis on the demographic characteristics of the participants.
