Determination of smart board usage status of science teachers: Example of Tokat province

This research, was carried out to determine the use of smart board established in schools within the scope of FATİH Project of teachers who carry out the science course. In the study descriptive scanning model was used. In the study conducted in 2016-2017 academic year, teachers from 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade science courses participated in secondary schools in Tokat province. As of the date of the study, 113 schools were found to have smart boards and the opinions of 146 science teachers who returned to the questionnaires developed by the researcher formed the data of the study. The data obtained from the questionnaire were analyzed by using descriptive analysis methods (percentage/ frequency) and content analysis. As a result of the research; It is seen that approximately half of the science teachers have taken lessons by using the internet connection feature. It has been determined that science teachers use smart board mostly in teaching biology related subjects and at least in teaching physics related subjects. It was concluded that the teachers of Science who participated in the study used smart board mostly to make evaluations and to concretize the lesson with visuals and animations; and at least they used it in reading and listening activities. Teachers of science have advised their colleagues about the use of smart board to benefit from visual applications, to receive in-service training and to follow the applications up-to-date. The most common problems that teachers face when using Smart board are the slow speed of connecting and connecting to the internet, the degradation of the touch screen and the freezing of the screen. At the point of solving the problems that teachers face, it was determined that they received help from the information technology teachers or other teachers at the school.
