A comparison of FETÖ/PDY terrorist organization and PKK/KCK terrorist organization

In the bipolar world of the Cold War, the newly established Turkish democracy was interrupted by the 27 May 1960 coup. The 1961 constitution, prepared in this atmosphere, expanded the social and political rights and removed the barriers to workers, university students, and union organizations. Under this freedom atmosphere, some changes occurred in the structure of the state and society after Turkey's establishment and with the effect of factors such as the USSR's support for leftist organizations in Turkey with an international revolutionary thought, Marxist, Leninist, and Maoist terrorist organizations were organized throughout the country and started their acts. Although the actions that prepared the ground for the 12 September 1980 coup were interrupted afterward, the PKK, which flourished in its predecessor leftist organizations' home, has caused an environment of massive and large acts of terrorism in the country that still continues today. The FETÖ terrorist organization, which established its disguised structure in the 1960s by making use of the positive effects of the revolution process on the conservative Turkish society, was not contented with veiled terrorist acts conducted by militants organized in various sections of society and on the state's levels such as "17/25 December", "Military Espionage," "Ergenekon" and "Balyoz" operations and carried out a significant act of terrorism in the cover of a military coup on 15 July 2016, killing hundreds of government officials and civilians with military ammunition. FETO, like PKK, gives extensive damage to Turkey's state structure and incites social separatism and Islamophobia. In the changing international dynamics, to become a force in its region, Turkey must eliminate large terrorist structures and infrastructures. In this context, FETÖ and PKK terrorist organizations were discussed and compared in various fields in this study to make stimulating evaluations for a significant struggle against these organizations. Published works, own publications of the terrorist organizations, indictments, and the narratives of members who have served in FETÖ and PKK for many years were used as references in this thesis. Analyzes were made based on the information obtained.
