Abstract (EN)

SUMMARY Introduction: Fibromyalgia syndrome(FSM) is a chronic pain syndrome which occour as generalized body pain and asthenia and FSM is included in central sensitization syndroms. According to studies, Neuron-specific enolase (NSE) is a biomarker which is related with neuron damage, its role in FMS's pathophysiology is not studied. Aim: Our aim in this study is evaluated if there is a relation between quality of life, psychological state and cognitive functions and whether NSE levels are effected or not in FMS patients. Material and method: 55 female patients that diagnosed with fibromyalgia according to the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) classification criterias and 40 healthy volunteers female are taken in the study. Patient's and control group's demographic features, life quality scales [(SF-36, Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ))], psychological state [(Beck Depression Scale, anxiety assessing state and trait anxiety scale (STAI-1, STAI-2))], sleep quality scale [(Pittsburg Sleep Quality questionnaire (PSQI))], cognitive dysfunction (mini mental test, clock drawing test ) scales are been studied. Serum NSE levels are been studied by ECLIA method. Findings: Significant difference were not found in serum NSE levels of FMS patients. When difference found significantly in FMS patients' life quality, sleep and psychological state scores according to the control group, significant change did not found in cognitive functions. Significant relation were not found between Serum NSE levels and life quality, psychological state and cognitive functions. Conclusion: In this study, a change in the levels of NSE in patients with FMS were not detected. As well as, association weren't found between NSE levels and clinic parameters, life quality, psychological and cognitive state. In the study patients with FMS not having cognitive dysfunction can make a contribution to the result. Making studies with broader participation and inclusion of patients affected by cognitive state will clarify the relationship between NSE with FMS subject.
