Salvia officinalis is a plant belonging to the Lamiaceae family and is usually consumed as a tea in cold weather conditions such as colds and sore throats. In addition, essential oil is obtained from sage leaves and imported and exported. However, it is used in many fields. Salvia means "healing" in Latin, while officinalis means "medicinal". Various studies have been conducted on the curative effect of Salvia officinalis. In general, the plant is rich in phenolic compounds and essential oils with proven biological activity. In addition, after the essential oil is obtained from sage leaves, the remaining part is waste. However, there are very valuable active substances in the remaining watery part and the remaining plant material. The most abundant of these is rosmarinic acid, whose biological activity and pharmacological effects continue to be researched. Within the scope of this study, sage collected from Düzce region were dried in the shade. Different extraction experiments were carried out on the sage plant material that remained as waste after the essential oil was obtained. Extraction trials were carried out on the evaluation of the remaining pulp after the essential oil extraction apparatus was set up. However, for the sake of comparison and in order to choose the most suitable method, it was arranged to last 2, 16, 24 hours with the help of magnetic stirrer. Ethanol, acetone and purified water were used as solvents. The presence of active substance was measured by HPLC (high pressure liquid chromatography) device. In the case of the evaluation of the remaining pulp after the Clevenger mechanism, the amount of active substance was found to be quite high. The closest amount of rosmarinic acid to clevenger is the extraction method using ethanol and ultrasonication. The amounts of rosmarinic acid in the obtained extracts were determined by chromatographic devices. The amount of rosmarinic acid was found to be quite high in both the extracts obtained from the waste remaining from the plant material and the extract obtained from the aqueous phase remaining in the balloon after the water vapor distillation of the essential oil. Flash chromatography was used to separate these extracts from other impurities from plant material. The enriched rosmarinic acid obtained here was first determined by HPLC. Afterwards, enriched rosmarinic acid with high purity was obtained by proving the accuracy of the molecule by mass scanning with LC/MS (liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry) device.
