Analysis of Gaziantep 1960 – 1980 period urban housing spatial configuration

In this study, finding a relation between the development of Gaziantep with the change in the venue set up as a part of urban housing during 1960 - 1980 were aimed. In this study which is mainly a housing survey, the elements shaping the residence and factors which influence the spatial the change was tied to both to the general framework and Gaziantep city which where this study was carried out. Within this context; it was attempted to express how much the developments between 1960 - 1980, which corresponded with the cities economic, social and cultural change and the transition period, and how much local elements influenced the formation of the Gaziantep Urban Housing. It was aimed to question how changes and developments between 1960 - 1980 affected the housing venue, by considering that every change that affects the life of the society and the residence, and therefore the changes are seen on the social scale, also reflected in the residence. For this purpose; in addition to determining the spatial construct of the houses considered in the scope of the study, the factors affecting the change of the spatial construct with the residential space and spatial relation in the mentioned period were also discussed. The space syntax method, which finds itself an application area in this study recently and appears as the relation of the social structure to the spatial structure as an appropriate tool in the analysis, was used. The method involves simply analyzing spatial configurations at different scales according to the spatial relationship order. At the end of the study as a result; by interpreting the synthetic data which obtained from sources, observations and interpretations showed materials related the Gaziantep 1960 - 1980 Housing Venue. Based on this, the Gaziantep 1960-1980 Urban Housings which symbolizing renewal, built on the first planned areas of the city; it can be said that it has its own unique space construct and spatial relation forms that link traditional housing culture with present housing culture and reflect the lifestyle and residential culture of the modernization process of the city. It has also been determined that there is a repetitive relationship between distinct functional residence groups in the period residences, and spatial relations in the night and the daytime use to begin to be typified. In this study, it is thought that the Gaziantep Urban Houses of the period of 1960-1980, bearing the original character of the era, which is considered to be an important part of urban identity, constituted the core of the spatial configuration of today's houses. In regards to reflecting the social and economic richness of the era between 1960 - 1980 their residences are considered important. Through the study and the obtained results, it is hoped that the spatial memory of the city will be kept alive and will be an agency to carry it to the future generations.
