Özet (EN)

This research was carried out to examine the relationship between university students' subjective happiness in close relationships, their beliefs about mate selection, and their ability to manage emotions. The other aims of the study are to examine whether university students' subjective happiness in close relationships, beliefs about mate selection, and ability to manage emotions show a significant difference according to age, gender, relationship status and relationship duration. The universe of the research consists of students studying in Istanbul in 2020-2021. The sample of the study was determined by convenient sampling and criterion sampling method and consists of university students (n = 359), between the ages of 19-26, studying at the faculties of Social, Science and Health Sciences, continuing their education at Yeditepe University in 2020-2021. Personal Information Form, Subjective Happiness Scale, Romance and Mate Selection Attitude Scale and Emotion Management Skills Scale were applied to individuals in order to obtain data for the purposes of the research. Pearson Correlation Analysis was performed to examine the relationship between the normally distributed data during the analysis phase. After the correlational analysis, independent samples t-test and one-way analysis of variance were used to understand the analysis of differences. The obtained information was analyzed with SPSS .25.0 program. According to the findings obtained from the correlation analysis, there was no statistically significant relationship between the subjective happiness level of young adults in close relationships and their beliefs about mate selection. A positive and statistically significant relationship was found between subjective happiness levels and emotion management skills in close relationships during young adulthood. When the relationship between the subjective happiness variable and demographic variables was examined, subjective happiness levels in young adulthood did not differ significantly according to gender and relationship duration. When the subjective happiness scores were analyzed according to the age variable, a statistically significant difference was observed. Individuals aged 18-20 have higher subjective happiness scores than individuals aged 21-23. Subjective happiness scores of young adults aged 21-23 were found to be lower than those aged 24 and over. When a statistically significant difference in subjective happiness levels according to the relationship status of young adults is examined, the subjective happiness scores of individuals who are in a romantic relationship were found to be higher than those who do not have a romantic relationship. When the relationship between belief levels about mate selection and emotion management skills in young adulthood was examined, a negative and statistically significant relationship was observed. When the relationship between the beliefs about mate choice and demographic variables was examined, it was found that there was no significant difference according to age and relationship duration. The belief levels of young adult individuals about mate selection showed a statistically significant difference according to their gender. It was seen that male participants' belief scores about mate selection were higher than female participants' scores. When a statistically significant difference was examined in the beliefs of young adults about choosing a partner according to their relationship status, it was seen that the scores of young adults who were in a romantic relationship in their beliefs about the choice of a romantic relationship were higher than those who did not have a romantic relationship. When the variable of emotion management skills in young adulthood is examined according to gender, age, relationship status and relationship duration, it is seen that there is no significant difference.
