A comparison of high school and vocational school programmes in terms of the aims and basic principles of Turkish national education

This research is conducted in order to compare high schools and vocational schools in Turkey in terms of the aims and basic principles of Turkish National Education. Data are collected through literature review. The high school programmes that are taken as sample are; classified in two main groups; a) High Schools including Classical High School, Anatolian High School, High School of Science and Social Sciences and High School of Sports. b) Vocational Schools including High School of Fine Arts, High School of Teacher Training, Intermediary Religious Schools, High Scholl of Trade and Business, Health, Tourism and Hotel Management, Property and Agriculture Trade Schools. The programs of schools that are in the scope of research are analysed in terms of the aims and basic principles of Turkish National Education. While analysing these programs their general aims, establishment aims, aims and regulations of lessons in programs are taken into consideration in the analysis of the data.In the light of the findings, programs of Trade Schools are found to serve better to the aims and basic principles of Turkish National Education. It is also found out that High School programmes are required to be revised in terms of the aims and basic principles of Turkish National Education.Key Words: Programme, Vocational Schools
