The effect of augmented reality enhanced learning materials on learners' achievement and learners' satisfaction

Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of using augmented reality enhanced learning materials on learners? achievement and satisfaction level. In the research, which was designed as a quasi-experimental study, the experimental group consisted of 63 volunteer undergraduate students from the third class of Computer Education and Instructional Technologies (CEIT), Communication, and Science departments. Learners were classified as 3 groups of CEIT, including learners who were familiar with the learning materials in the context of technology; Science, including learners who were familiar with the learning materials in the context of their field of study; Communication, including learners who were unfamiliar with the learning materials in the context of their field of study. For the research, functionally enhanced OptikAR (Basic Experiments in Geometrical Optics) and visually enhanced InsectARium (Basic Insect Diversity and Classification) learning materials were developed. Prior to the experimental process, OptikAR and InsectARium achievement tests were applied as pre-test to the learners. Afterwards, materials were used individually by the learners according to the instructions given in the laboratory environment. In the last step, the satisfaction questionnaire and the same achievement test was repeated as post-test. For data analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Post-Hoc test, effect size, mean, standard deviation, frequency and calculations of percentage were used.As a result, use of functionally enhanced OptikAR and visually enhanced InsectARium learning materials were found to have a positive effect on learners? achievement. Using visually enhanced learning materials had more positive effect than using functionally enhanced learning materials on the achievement level. This effect was found to be slightly higher in the group which was familiar with the learning materials in the context of technology than the other groups. Similarly, learning materials were observed to have a positive effect on the satisfaction level of the learners. The level of satisfaction was similar in the groups which were familiar with the learning materials in the context of technology and field of study whereas the satisfaction level of these groups were examined to be higher than the group which was unfamiliar with the learning materials.
